Rutherford PTA activities fall into one of three categories: education & enrichment, community building and fundraising.

Education & Enrichment

• Grant Program: The PTA Grant Program funds or subsidizes activities, field trips, artists, projects etc. that are not funded with the current school budget and that seek to improve or enhance the curriculum or life experience of Rutherford students and/or staff.
• Parent Education: Each year, Rutherford PTA hosts guest speakers for parents on various topics. Past presentations have included: Families in a Tech Filled World and Teachable Safety Skills: Replacing Myths with Facts.
• Scholastic Book Fair: Our Scholastic Book Fair is a family affair! Students look forward to our annual Grand Breakfast and Books event.  Books purchased at the Scholastic Book Fair earn the PTA “Scholastic Bucks” which are then in turn used to fulfill library and classroom book requests.
• Book Swap: The Rutherford Book Swap is an annual event that our students look forward to each year! This event gives your family a chance to think about the books at home that are not being used. What a great opportunity to refresh your bookshelves AND save space in the landfills!

Community Building

• Back to School Bash: The Back 2 School Bash is a fun night for the whole family. Activities vary each year and have included BINGO and a scavenger hunt.
• Kindergarten Playdate: The playdate takes place 30 minutes before the Back 2 School Bash and is the perfect opportunity to meet your child’s new friends (and their parents).
• School Spirit / Kindness Week
• Families dine out: During our monthly Families Dine Out events, restaurants graciously donate a portion of their evening’s proceeds to the Rutherford PTA. This is a great way to meet up with other Rutherford families.
  • Culver’s Night (Stillwater): 3rd Tuesday of each month, 5-7 PM
  • Victorino’s Pizza Give Back (Main Street, Stillwater): April 13 & May 25, 4-8 PM
• Community Night / End-of-the-Year Celebration: Let’s celebrate another successful school year closing!

Fundraising

This year the PTA is planning for three fundraisers: Move & Groove, Read-A-Thon, and Wishes for Rutherford. Over the past several years, contributions from these events have helped to fund things such as library and classroom books, gym and playground equipment such as our Gaga pit, educational software (e.g. Raz Kids), arts programming, and our new playground coming in 2024!

• Move & Groove Fun Run (Fall): Rutherford families, lace up your sneakers and get ready to move, walk, shake and groove your bodies at our Move & Groove Fun Run fundraiser. Students, staff and family members are invited to move their way through a course around the school grounds — all while being SPLASHED with color along the way!
• Read-A-Thon (Winter): Our Read-A-Thon encourages our students to read by delivering fun and engaging activities throughout the week and offering special gifts for meeting their reading goals.
• Wishes for Rutherford (Spring): Wishes for Rutherford is an adults-only evening where we come together as a Rutherford community to raise money for our school and programs. There are fantastic live/silent auction items, delicious food and plenty of fun!
