Playground Update

We can't wait to play with you!

Last spring, the Rutherford PTA and committee of teachers and staff, set out to raise the funds needed to replace BOTH of our aging and unrepairable playground systems with an updated outdoor experience that not only meets modern day safety standards but also ADA accessibility standards.

With the support of our Rutherford families and staff, the PTA, Stillwater business community, grants awarded and District 834, we raised the funds needed to make this dream a reality.  Not only that, we made great change in how the Stillwater school district supports playground replacements district-wide.

Key Dates to Remember:

With the help of our creative students we created a one-of-a-kind playground experience that everyone can enjoy together!

What we can expect to see:

  • TWO ADA accessible playgrounds
  • A student designed ninja warrior course
  • A student chosen playground color theme
  • Soft surfaces, funded by District 834, that allow easy access and aim to prevent injury
  • An inclusive space for all students and abilities to play together
  • Space for large motor activities- kickball, soccer, football, etc.
  • A new location away from the building (removing disruption to classrooms)
  • Large enough experience to accommodate student population growth
  • A design built for sensory stimulation, physical exercise and imagination
  • New blacktop surfacing for basketball and foursquare
  • New basketball hoops
  • A relocation of the gaga pit to be near new playground
  • Installation of a paved path around playground for access
  • Shading added to both playground structures
